Your event at The British Institute
The Library and Cultural Centre of the British Institute is located in the fashionable Oltrarno district. Situated on the piano nobile of the 16th century Palazzo Lanfredini, it boasts a glorious view across the river Arno by Santa Trinita.
The magnificent rooms at Palazzo Lanfredini are perfect for a wide range of events – conferences, receptions, dinners, screenings, concerts, lectures, seminars and so on – and we are always happy to partner with people and organisations who may wish to run and event or programme with us.
Palazzo dello Strozzino
The Palazzo, once known as the Palazzo delle Tre Porte for its three ground doorways, was built on a land owned by Palla Strozzi. It was renovated around 1457, with the design attributed to Filippo Brunelleschi. Among the architects who participated in the construction was Michelozzo to whom is attributed the lower façade featuring an irregular rustication.
The school provides classrooms for small and larger groups fully equipped with desks or flap chairs, audio-visual equipment and wifi. There are ten rooms suitable for groups up to 12, and one larger room which can accommodate up to 25. The rooms all have high ceilings, lots of natural light and many have great views from the windows.
Palazzo Lanfredini
The Palazzo was built in 1515 by Baccio d'Agnolo for Lanfredino Lanfredini, a member of a family of Florentine merchants and bankers, and the building retains most its original architecture. The 'sgraffito' that adorn the façade (which was restored in the 19th century) reveal grotesque and arabesque figures, notably the 'Mantacora', a monster with the head of a man and the body of a beast.
The Ferragamo Room
Our magnificent salone, with its spectacular view over the Arno, is the main room of the library. This spacious room is fully set up with audio-visual equipment and wifi. Here, conferences take place as well as presentations and launches, film screenings, receptions and concerts (there is a Bechstein grand piano).
The Acton Room
This room is more intimate, and is suitable for smaller groups. It is also fully set up with audio-visual equipment and wifi. It is particularly suitable for seminars and lectures, but can also be used for receptions and other events.
SOTTO al British
With its own street entrance from the Lungarno, this is our most flexible space, suitable for all kinds of educational and cultural activities. Separate from the library, this self-contained room benefits from plenty of natural light, and is set up with flap chairs, audio-visual equipment and wifi. For more information about the space see SOTTO al British.
