Radical Renaissance Women
A new Renaissance course, from Tuesday 3rd October 2023
A new online/in-person course from Alexandra Lawrence, who partnered with us for her fabulous Divine Dante series a couple of years ago.
This time, Alex is bringing her signature combination of deep knowledge and infectious enthusiasm to a series of talks on Radical Renaissance Women. See below for details.
We are all familiar with the idea of the ‘Renaissance Man’—the polymath geniuses, scholars, princes, courtiers, writers, and artists that lived and worked in the 15th and 16th centuries. But what of the women not included in the traditional canon?
This course takes inspiration from the enlightening studies put forth in Renaissance Characters (edited by Eugenio Garin) and revisits Renaissance society by looking at some of the less traditional and more radical figures in Italy at the time. The powerful women who populated Italy alongside their more mainstream counterparts.
03 October - 14 November 2023
