Sara Funaro was born in 1976 in Florence. She graduated in clinical psychology at the University of Florence and specialized in psychotherapy at the Le Scotte Polyclinic in Siena. In 2009 she was appointed vice president of the public services company Firenze Montedomini. A member of the Democratic Party, she served Councilor for health and equal opportunities during Dario Nardella’s two terms as Mayor from 2014 to 2024. In 2024 she was elected to become the first woman to hold the position of Mayor of the city of Florence.
