Giuseppe Manetti

Giuseppe Manetti (1709–1781) was an influential Italian architect and engineer of the 18th century, best known for his contributions to the architectural landscape of Florence during the late Baroque and early Neoclassical periods. Born in Florence, Manetti trained in both architecture and engineering, and his works reflect a synthesis of classical principles with the evolving aesthetic tastes of his time. This lecture will explore Manetti's key architectural projects in Florence, focusing on his role in transforming the city’s public spaces and buildings. Notable works include his involvement in the design of the Teatro della Pergola and the Piazza della Santissima Annunziata complex, where his designs harmonized traditional Florentine architecture with more modern, elegant forms. Manetti’s approach to urban design emphasized both functionality and aesthetic unity, leaving a lasting impact on Florence's architectural identity in the 18th century.
