Week IV

Tuesday 22nd October at 18:00

Elissa is the queen of Day VI, featuring stories about those who escape danger, loss, or shame through the use of witty retort. Themes of performance and interpretation abound. Day VII, under the rule of King Dioneo, features stories about women who play tricks on their husbands. We will discuss medieval attitudes toward adultery and toward women, as well as exploring the question of whether Boccaccio was a feminist or a raging misogynist.
