Sex and Solitude – Arturo Galansino and Christian Levett discuss the life and work of Tracey Emin.

On the occasion of the major exhibition at Palazzo Strozzi dedicated to the renowned contemporary British artist Tracey Emin, we are delighted to present a conversation about her life and work between the curator Arturo Galansino (Director General of Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi) and the distinguished art collector Christian Levett—who owns several of her works and shares a longstanding connection with the artist.

Tracey Emin DBE RA was born in 1963 in Croydon, London, and grew up in the seaside town of Margate. Renowned for her bold autobiographical and confessional approach, her work spans a wide range of media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, film, photography, neon, and sewn appliqué. In 2007, she represented the United Kingdom at the 52nd Venice Biennale, becoming one of the most influential voices in contemporary art. In 2011, she was elected a Royal Academician, and in 2024, she was honoured with a Damehood in the King’s Birthday Honours for her contributions to the arts.
