The Decoration of Orsanmichele: The Centre of Florence’s Renaissance Guilds
A lecture by Carol Taddeo
From its origins as a granary to its fourteenth-century rebirth as Florence’s guild church, Orsanmichele is home to a rich decorative programme created by the most notable Renaissance talent. A closer look at this unique structure will reveal its enduring role as a devotional space, along with a splendid array of exterior sculpture representing the various Guilds which are simultaneously imbued with a deeper meaning.
Carol Taddeo completed a research doctorate at the University of Edinburgh and teaches art history in Florence and Rome.
