Three collectors in early 20th-century Florence

A lecture by Mark Roberts

Mark Roberts describes the activities of three collectors in early 20th-century Florence: Arthur Acton, Charles Loeser and Herbert Percy Horne.

The three art collectors Arthur Acton (1873-1953), Charles Loeser (1864-1928) and Herbert Percy Horne (1864-1916) were friends, and liked going on ‘hunting expeditions’ together, hunting not for deer or boar but for antiques. Acton furnished Villa La Pietra; Loeser bequeathed part of his collection to the Palazzo Vecchio and the White House; Horne furnished the Palazzo Corsi in via de’ Benci, now the Horne Museum. Mark Roberts explores their varied personalities.
