Everyone was a suspect in Counter-Reformation Italy, especially women who operated outside of the traditional wife/mother binary and whose lives centered on their creative output. Female poets were particularly susceptible to attention from the Inquisition—this session delves into a few of the more famous cases of women on trial everywhere from Venice down to Rome.
