Renaissance Women of Florence
A lecture by Alexandra Lawrence
We can all picture multiple examples of a ‘Renaissance Man’, but as historian Margaret L. King once said, ‘Renaissance woman seems faceless.’ This lecture spotlights three very different and little-known Florentine women—Alessandra Macinghi Strozzi, Laura Battiferri, and Suor Maria Celeste—whose letters, poetry, and art patronage help in constructing a picture of each of them and their contributions to their community and to history.
